I taste my way through the wonderful world of Dutch (and Belgian) genever with Piet van Leijenhorst, master distiller at Amsterdam-based Bols.

He’s promoting “Genever: America’s Lost European Spirit,”  an E.U.-sponsored marketing initiative to introduce American consumers to the grain-based juniper spirit produced throughout the Netherlands, Belgium and small pieces of France and Germany. Without genever, there would never have been any such thing as gin.
